About the Department. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The Village of Cahokia is one of the earliest settlements in the State of Illinois, established in 1699. Cahokia is located along the Mississippi River and is part of the St. Louis Metropolitan area. The population served by the Department is over 17,000 residents. The Department is a member of the St. Clair County Drug Task Force, the St. Louis Metropolitan Major Case Squad, the Metro East Auto Theft Task Force and participates in a DEA task force.

The Department was awarded a federal grant in 1971 to fund the purchase of patrol vehicles for a police car saturation program. The program provided take-home patrol cars for all department officers, to be visible in the community and act as a deterrent to crime. The program has been successful and continues today.

The Department became part of the State of Illinois I-WIN program (Illinois Wireless Information Network) in 2000. This system allows officers to use in-car laptop computers using cell phone technology to communicate directly with the Illinois State Police computer system. The officers also can communicate with other departments throughout the state.

Jeremy Chambers Memorial Fund

Patrolman Jeremy Chambers was killed in the line of duty on Monday April 24, 2006 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. A Memorial has been established at the historic wedge across from Holy Family Church in Cahokia. The Memorial honors Jeremy and will be dedicated to all branches of Public Service. Jeremy was a true public servant and touched so many lives in his short 26 years as a Life Guard, Police Explorer, Volunteer Cahokia Fire Fighter, Emergency Medical Technician, Auxillary Police Officer and as a Cahokia Policeman. This Memorial will honor anyone who is killed while performing public service. This is the way Jeremy lived his life and will be a true memorial to his dedication.

Donations can be made to the HERO 101 Fund or to the SWIC Scholarship Fund in Jeremy's name.

CLICK IT OR TICKET

With the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, law enforcement officers from across the nation will be participating in a “Ticket It Or Ticket” campaign.  The Illinois Department of Transportation will be providing funds to allow officers from the Cahokia Police Department to participate.

Officers will be working overtime to make the roadways safer this holiday period by increasing mobile patrols to target drunk drivers, speeders, and unbelted vehicle occupants.  These overtime saturation patrols will occur during the day and night from June 19th through July 6th.

The goals are to reduce the number of traffic accidents, and reduce the severity of injuries if an accident occurs.
