Helpful Hints and Reminders:

  • Your property should be kept free of tall grass and weeds.
  • You must have trash service at all times and are responsible for accumlation of trash, garbage, litter, and debris on your property.
  • The storing of derelict vehicles is not allowed within Village limits. This means any vehicled that is not licensed properly or in running condition.
  • Parking vehicles on an unpaved surface is not permitted. Unpaved surface is considered grass or areas not designated as driveways and yards.
  • All homes or mobile homes must have an electrical inspection and a housing inspection prior to occupancy.
  • All new owners and tenants must obtain an occupancy permit prior to moving into their home.
  • All homeowners/tenants are required to set their trash out next to the street in containers with lids and remove them within 24 hours after pick-up.
  • All dogs are required to be licensed by the Village of Cahokia. Tags are $2.00 per animal. Bring in proper documentation to the Code Enforcement Department showing inoculation shots.
  • The keeping of pit bull dogs within Village limits is prohibited regardless of breed or type. This includes, but is not limited to, half, quarter, or part breed of pit bull dogs.
  • Building permits are required for new dwellings, room additions, garages, sheds (10x10), roofs, or fences. Applications are available at the Code Enforcement Department.

Things You Can Do:

  • You can be an important factor in keeping our community clean.
  • One way to do this is when you see trash or litter, pick it up. It takes everyone's participation to make a difference.
  • Pick up old newspapers and take them to the local schools for recycling.
  • Contact Code Enforcement if you believe a violation is occurring in your neighborhood.
  • Attend town meetings so you are informed on local issues.
  • Ask local organizations if they need help with projects they are working on.
  • Start an annual neighborhood clean-up and get involved.
  • Help those less fortunate. Help our elderly neighbors as much as you can.
  • Join local neighborhood watches and get to know your neighbors.
